This week I participated in a course called "Digital Scholar". This is in fact what caused me to create this blog.
When first considering what I thought a digital scholar to be about, I thought I grasped the concept pretty holistically. I see now there are many spheres to being a digital scholar, and that it encompasses our everyday lives. It is about approaching and using various platforms in a professional and mindful way, and constantly considering how you can share the message you have in an innovative and beneficial way, whatever your audience may be.
I very much enjoyed the interactivity in the classes. Particularly those that required input from everybody - it enabled us to go deeper in considering digital scholarship (e.g. the exercise where we went around considering what are the benefits and drawbacks of video in research, teaching and learning and providing services). It illustrated that there are a plethora of implications when using technology, whichever main purpose you may be using it for and reminded me how important the management of modern technologies is, whether in is for research, teaching or providing services.
I hope to apply the principles learned to my life, whenever I can. At the moment, I definitely fall into the storyteller sphere of being a digital scholar. I intend to add to my blog as a way of just reminding people how epic the ocean is. I haven't fully got the hang of blogging. I will learn as I go. And as I go further into my research I hope to expand my profile as a digital scholar and use it to connect and engage across borders and fields.
